Bear Character Concept Piece

Here is a concept piece that I did to give an idea of what my main character looks like. I wanted to use rigid edges to give it that Lino effect.

Coming up with Lino Style

Here is my first attempt at converting my line drawings into easily drawn Lino looking digitally.
Here is the first attempt but was a little roughly painted in photoshop.

I decided to use the polygon lasso tool instead to give it that cut out rigid edge look.

Concept Piece for Pre Production Story

Here is an Image of my Bear character working in a fish factory

Character Design for Deep Project

Here are some designs for the Deep project which we had to undergo as part of our crew assignment. These are for the main protagonist who has been locked in a cell.

Face shot based on the style of Tim Burton

Crew Production work

Here are the shots that I have completed the in-betweens and or coloured for different 3rd year final films. It was a long process but worth while as I learnt a lot which will help in deciding which software to use for my Film in the coming year. Created on Toonboom and Flash.

Concept Piece for Pre Production

Heres a concept piece for my pre production project involving the quest for freedom of an institutionalised bear and his struggle back to the wild. Digitally painted on Photoshop

More Lino Printing for Pre Production Project

Here are some more Lino Prints I did for research for my Pre Production Project. Hope you like them.

Print Making

Mother had some Lino stuff lying around the family home to I decided to have a go. Turned out to be a really nice style so might use it in my 3rd year project.

Ideas for 3 Year Main Story

A couple of thoughts went though my head when coming up with ideas for a story that I would work with. None of them I really wanted to push forward to an actual finished product. Luckily I have a work in progress. It story of a bear escaping from society and finding his way back to the wilderness. Basically 'Into the wild' with fear. Here are some sketches:

Drawings

My main goal that I set myself at the beginning of the year was to draw more. To become more fluid and generally better at drawing. So here is some work in progress, I reckon I have got a bit better but might have just being tres rubbish in the beginning.

Deep Stop Motion Group Project

Here is some concept art that I created for the Deep project on my course. It is a jail cell scene of a larger postmodern style film. I created it on photoshop and didn't use any reference for perspective. It took a while to figure it out because I wanted to achieve a fisheye/ fly on the wall style image from an interesting curved roof. It was originally in colour but changed it to black and white as the references of Tim Burton and Alfred Hitchcock weren't strong enough as a presence.

Jelly

Had an hour to spare and wanted to get my brain back into gear after a particularly vicious hangover. Its not my best work but here it is anyway.

Still not finished, need to add something to the end of the movement.

The Writting on The Wall: Animation practise shot

We used the set that we created before and by using camera angles that made it look like she is the right size but in fact is much to big for the room. The actual animation side of this Test was done in about 6 hours from start till finish. We made all the scenery ourselves mainly out of wood and cardboard. I myself took a number of hours to make the piping out of a very large number of toilet rolls and then spraying them with various paints. I am happy the way that this scene panned out and wouldn't mind doing more at a later date as it designed to be a feature film. Hope you enjoy it.

Writting on The Wall: Pre Production Bible Front Cover

I took a picture of our two plasticine models in a cheesy over the shoulder Titanic look shot. Then edited it in photoshop adding an ageing sepia tone texture.

Model Making

Heres my character Caroline who I made out of plasticine. These were made just as model ideas and not for animation purposes. A draw back is that she wouldn't stand up properly and limbs were rather flimsy as didn't have any wire frame inside

On the left is the character astrid which Jack made to accompany Caroline.

More Polished storyboard

Storyboard design set out and presented more coherently. Redrawn in photoshop.

Building a Set (Stop Motion)

I have been working with Jack to create a small set for some potential stop motion animation. On my course at Falmouth there isn't a lot of push for students to undergo stop motion but I really wanted give it a go seeing as that is what I thought the course would focus on it.

Here is a wooden set that we built

I made the floorboards out of large size lollypop sticks with the rounded ends cut off. I also made the wonky bookshelf which I varnished.

Here is a relatively finished looking set, complete with hand painted books.

I made the table out of more lollypop sticks. The bird cage out of wire and wood and the candle stick out of split whittled wood, glue and a small oval of wire for the handle.

A picture of me taking a picture of the set.
